The truck is the wood shelf that protects the top of the pole and through which the rope slides to raise and lower the flag.  It has no moving parts, only holes for the line.

We hand make our trucks to fit the pole out of swamp White Oak butt stock.   This wood comes from the botrtom of the tree so it is compressed by the weight of the heavy tree, and it is non-rotting because water and air do not pass through its fibers.
